Psychosis is a condition that affects the way your brain processes information. You might feel or appear to be disconnected from reality. You might see, hear, feel or believe things that others cannot see, hear, feel or believe. It can be quite frightening for some people, though sometimes people hear voices that aren’t frightening.
Sometimes psychosis is also referred to as schizophrenia, but this doesn’t mean that if you experience psychosis you have schizophrenia. Psychosis and schizophrenia are different in that psychosis describes an experience that happens in different mental health conditions whereas schizophrenia is a diagnostic label.
